Carignano Reserve ROCCA RUBIA - Sardinian red wine Denomination: Carignano Reserve ROCCA RUBIA - Sardinian red wine The production of this characteristic wine is concentrated almost entirely in the Sulcis area (in south-western Sardinia). Carignano is undoubtedly one of Sardinia´s most prestigious wines. The resistance of the Carignano grape to the particular climate of the island has allowed it to be cultivated mostly in warm, sun-drenched, sandy soils that - together with the low yield per vine - give the resultant wine a sense of vigour and a rich fragrance. The perfect equilibrium between climate, soil and grape makes for a wine with an intense ruby red colour, tending towards garnet. It has a warm, enveloping fragrance of plums, marasca cherries, sweet spices, chocolate, liquorice and black pepper. The palate is positively aristocratic, replete with soft tannins of rare elegance. Recognised since 1977 as a DOC (Controlled Denomination of Origin) wine, it is marketed under the name Carignano del Sulcis.
